Getting Started with Rope
How much rope should you get?
How much rope you should get depends on several factors, but hopefully this guide will help.
As to be expected, how much and what lengths is going to depend on the size of the body you are putting rope on.
We offer various "kits" for you, but read on to see what you think you might need!
If you're doing any sort of decorative rope or bondage that involves more than just tying up wrists and ankles (for which 2 x 15' would suffice) you're going to need a few pieces of rope likely.
If you are tying a very petite person, a single 30' may be enough to do a basic chest harness such as a Bikini Harness or a Pentagram Harness.
If you want to make sure you enough to do basic chest harness on more body sizes, an extra 15' or 2 x 15' ropes would help.
Alternatively, if you're tying bigger bodies regularly, some people prefer 50' ropes so they don't have to join rope as often.
If you're looking to do more full body or more intricate decorative ties such as a Hishi Karada (Rope Dress) or perhaps a Hip harness in addition to a chest harness, you'll likely want a Starter Kit (2 x 30 and 2 x15) or perhaps a Floor Kit (3 x 30 and 2 x 15) if you're tying larger bodies.
Our Floor Kit Plus includes a 50' as well which is useful for tying bigger bodies and/or doing a tie with a single rope or less rope joins.
Our Beginner rigger kit includes a Floor kit plus 2 x 7' ropes. These shorter ropes are ideal for finishing off ties when you just need a little bit more rope, but not too much! There is also enough rope in these kits to get started on suspensions (not including uplines - which can be purchased with the kit).
Our Experienced Rigger kit has even more rope - 4 x 30' + 3 x 15' + 2 x 7' for a total of 179' feet. Pair this with uplines and you've got a lot of rope for suspension or leave the uplines out and just have a lot of rope for floor play!
It's important to note that our kits are not discounted. We did this so you can build your own kit if you don't like ours, and not have to pay any extra!
We also offer custom lengths - simply select the Custom (by the foot) option and put how many feet you want. In the order comments you can note how you want it cut. For example, if you want 120 feet, simply put a quantity of 120 under the Custom option, then note in the order comments how you want it cut - such as "I'd like 2 x 40 feet and 2 x 20 feet please".
If you're still unsure, please reach out and we'll be happy to help in any way we can!
